Welcome to the 7th edition of Massey’s Magazine! There is A LOT of information packed into this week’s email!  Hope you’ll enjoy it!

In the News:  I’m going to lead off with a news story that is terrifying if you read this in the context as it is written.  Basically, we’re all in danger because many of our current antibiotics are no longer effective on bacteria we are fighting.

Here’s the article, and then let me give you my two cents worth:

First of all, they make some small notations about the fact that doctors have over-prescribed antibiotics as the cause of such antibiotic resistance, but let me give you an ER Nurse’s perspective.

I have witnessed a few evolutions over my career.  First of all, when my children (now 29 & 31) were young, their doctor had no problem telling me that “it’s just a virus and time, rest and fluids would be the best medicine.”

When I started working in the ER, about 10 years later, some doctors were beginning to become more freely throwing darts at infections and illnesses, and providing antibiotics even when there was a question as to whether one would even work–however, most weren’t over prescribing them yet.

Fastforward another 5+ years and the government started rating hospitals and basing repayment of some Medicare claims on patient satisfaction scores when the ACA rolled out, and then doctors were at the mercy of “making the patient happy.” Instead of the experts being allowed to say “an antibiotic won’t fix this,” it became a world of “this patient is going to be angry if I don’t send them home with a prescription.” I’ve seen it with my own two eyes COUNTLESS times.

Drug resistance is created when drugs are taken that aren’t needed, thus the bacteria (oftentimes lying dormant in our bodies) are learning how to fight these drugs.  A combination of this and all of the antibacterial hand sanitizers and soaps that have become an every household, every sink, every pocketbook staple… these microbes are getting smart instead of our bodies learning how to build up an immunity to these bugs.

Speaking of immunity.  This is THE MOST IMPORTANT COMPONENT, and something NOT EVEN WHISPERED IN THIS SUPERBUGS ARTICLE. Depending on which literature you read, anywhere from 70-95% of our immune system is located in and affected by what we put in our gut!  I tend to lean to the higher number, but just for arguement sake, I pulled a UCLA article citing the 70% number for you:

Folks, this is critical.  I was screaming this from the mountaintops during the COVID pandemic–questioning how many people were discussing their fear of COVID over their Big Macs!  SERIOUSLY!  Eating properly for our immune system is EVERYTHING!  Our bodies NEED a proper high fiber nutrient-dense balanced diet that is ANYTHING BUT what the Standard American Diet represents.  Eliminating the toxins from your intake in the form of processed foods and also known agricultural poisons is the absolute baseline to allowing your good bacteria and healthy gut biome to flourish and protect you from these Superbugs!  I’ll never say there isn’t a reason for medications at times, but if you do YOUR part in creating a healthy immune system, your need for such medications will be minimal, then your body won’t be likely to build up a tolerance against them!

If you still don’t know what you need to do to improve your health, create a thriving immune system, reduce or eliminate medications you are currently on, improve the inflammatory processes in your body, obtain and maintain a healthy weight, improve your energy, eliminate chronic pain, headaches and fatigue… this is my world!  PLEASE allow me to serve and support you in this way!

Reply to this email if you have questions, or click this link below schedule a consult with me, and I can share all of the ways I can be of assistance to you in this!  This is what I’ve studied DECADES for, and it is my passion and privilege to help so many overcome and prevent such devastating health crises!

Client spotlight: I have been working extra diligently the last year and a half to pinpoint the inflammatory reactions women have causing their hot flashes.  Yep, you heard me… inflammatory trigger food reactions cause MANY women’s menopausal symptoms and I have helped NUMEROUS determine what their causes are. Many have been cured simply by eliminating toxins from their diet, and switching to a clean gluten free/soy free lifestyle.  A number of women have had hot flashes (once we’ve fully detoxed them from everything else) to nightshade vegetables, some to eggs, and THIS WEEK I had yet another one who had her hot flashes return when we tested her on sugar alcohols.  The trigger food testing I do with all of my program clients is critical in determining if OTHERWISE healthy foods could be the culprit in your inflammatory reactions, and what could be causing difficulty in weight loss.
