This week’s focus is going to be on mental health. There are SO MANY THINGS affecting our mental health! Just one pulse check of this hit me today. I was reviewing the applications for my clinical trial I’m about to begin, and the number one medical diagnosis reported of folks beginning my trial is anxiety!
Has this always been the case? If not, what has changed?
Well, you know I’m going to argue that unnatural additives have created gut imbalances, affecting our serotonin, dopamine, and cortisol levels, ALL affecting our mental health, nutritional and sleep patterns.
This is one theory, that things have also worsened drastically over the last several years due to the prolonged isolation of folks during the pandemic. Social isolation has been linked to cognitive impairment, reduced immunity, increased risk of cardiovascular disease, and ultimately mortality. Human beings are simply not designed to manage segregation for a long time. We are social animals. We always have been. We were created that way. Psychological Consequences of Social Isolation
I know that even I—who loves people—had social tolerance issues when we got back to “normal.” I found myself more irritated in social situations than I have ever been. It’s as if I was “out of practice.” I forced myself back into in person church, small groups, women’s events, live music—and now I feel fine in all of these situations. And my social intolerance had nothing to do with fear. It had everything to do with anxiety and a reduced patience level from what I ever had. I am convinced this was related to being able to hunker down and avoid people for so long. Ours may have even been intensified, because right as people were emerging, my husband and I had to isolate ourselves due to his dangerously low white blood cell count when he was being treated for cancer.
So, what can you do to improve this?
Eat clean natural anti-inflammatory foods
Intermittent Fasting minimum 12 hours nightly to allow for a proper rebalance of your hormone levels.
Prayer/meditation in the first and last 30 minutes of your day.
Get back to volunteering! It has been proven, according to a study at the Cleveland Clinic, that volunteering decreases stress levels, depression, anxiety, and boosts our overall health and satisfaction with life!
Get back to fun community activities! Your social media community IS NOT ENOUGH! If ANYTHING, social media increases stress, anxiety and depression. Even if you keep in touch with great friends and family who you love on social media, you are flooded with overstimulation, negative news, and negative opinions about everything going on in the world.
